“Our Way”
One of my jobs outside of taking photos is to assist the Skidmore Strength & Conditioning Coach in training the various sports teams. While all the teams I work with undeniably train hard, I noticed that there was a little extra drive in the Men’s Basketball team. Maybe it was their huge sense of camaraderie, the fact that all members of the team would come in on their own to lift when they didn’t have a scheduled workout or that they genuinely all wanted to get better. Sometimes its hard to motivate the teams during the lift but that was never an issue with their team. This is why I decided to go to as many home games as possible for this team when I started taking sports photos for my school. I wanted to both see in person and capture what this drive in the gym translated to onto the court.
The drive I noticed in the weight room definitely carried over into their performance. The Men’s Basketball team concluded their season making it all the way to the League Championship game. Junior guard Tautvydas Kupstas was named to the All-Liberty League First Team, while junior center Greg Skoric.
This collection consists of my best and favorite photos from their home games as well as any other photos that I thought represented their team chant: Our Way. After every team huddle—whether that was after a lift or after a timeout in a game—the team would end the huddle by saying “Our Way”. It felt right to name this collection after their team chant.
What does “Our Way” mean?
As explained (summarized) by junior player, Harrison Eichelberger: “We were going to get things done our way, we were going to block out all the noise. All the other adversity we would go through? We would handle it our way with our team and not worry about anyone outside the Skidmore Basketball Family because we were all that mattered.”
